Reconnect with Your Partner and Build a Happy Relationship
If you are struggling and looking for guidance couples therapy can help you strengthen the bond with your partner.
Don’t let parenthood or other challenges pull you apart; learn how to turn towards each other instead of away. Relationships can be meaningful and satisfying, but when things start to feel strained, even small things can become large and heavy. You may still care about each other, yet feel caught in patterns that leave you frustrated, distant, or unsure how to move forward.
Couples counselling offers a space to slow things down, understand what’s really happening beneath the surface and begin rebuilding your connection in a way that feels real and comfortable.
Is This How You Feel About Your Relationship?
You might recognize that something has changed, even if you can’t quite explain it.
Conversations may become tense quickly (or stop altogether). You may feel:
• Misunderstood
• Unappreciated
• Or emotionally distant from your partner.
At times, it can feel like you’re sharing a life, but not truly living it. Some couples come to therapy while adjusting to major life changes, such as becoming parents or navigating stress from work or family responsibilities. Others are working through deeper wounds, like broken trust or long-standing conflict.
Whatever brought you here, it’s okay to want something better for your relationship. And we’re here to help you achieve that.
A happy relationship takes effort, but it’s worth it!
When Couples Therapy Can Help?
Couples therapy can help if you’re dealing with challenges that relate to your daily, family or love life. We’re here for you if you’re experiencing:
• Difficulty communicating without arguments or shutdowns
• Repeating the same conflicts without resolution
• Feeling emotionally disconnected or distant
• Changes in physical intimacy or closeness
• Challenges rebuilding trust after hurt or betrayal
• Stress from life transitions impacting your relationship
• And many more challenges and issues
If that’s what you’re going through right now, couples therapy will help you find a way out and strengthen your relationship.
Couples Therapy: Overcome Parenthood Challenges Together
Adding a baby to your relationship is a transformative moment in a couple’s life, whether it’s your first or third child. It’s a time filled with hope, excitement and so much love.
Yet, this stage of your life can also bring new challenges that put even the strongest of relationships to the test. It is likely that you’re dealing with some of those issues:
• Sleepless nights
• Experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions
• Adjusting to new responsibilities
All these things can bring up old or new issues, leading to feeling like you’re fighting all the time and missing out on delighting in your baby or children together.
Whether you’re expecting a child or have already welcomed a child into your home, in our work together, we’ll provide you with a safe and supportive space to strengthen your bond with each other and learn new ways to stay connected even when you’re not necessarily on the same page.
How Couples Counselling Can Help
Couples therapy is not about deciding who’s right or wrong. It’s about understanding the patterns that keep you stuck and learning how to communicate and include each other in your lives.
In couples therapy, you will find it easier to:
• Communicate more openly and effectively with your partner
• Understand each other’s needs and perspectives
• Improve connection and intimacy
• Break cycles of conflict and defensiveness
• Rebuild trust and emotional safety
• Strengthen both emotional and physical connection
The goal is to create (or rebuild) a relationship that feels supportive, respectful, and aligned with what you both want.

I am an approved provider through the Non-Insured Health Benefits program for Indigenous people. If you are a status card holder who is not currently seeing a different NIHB provider for mental health counselling, you will qualify for this program. This program allows me to apply for funding from Health Canada and then bill directly to the NIHB program on your behalf. NIHB does not fund missed appointments.
Two or more late cancellations or no shows can result in termination of services. Clients are encouraged to reach back out when they are feeling more ready if this is the case. Contact me directly for more information on the NIHB program.

FAQs About Couples Counselling in Hamilton
-
One of the most important aspects when engaging in therapy is your comfort and trust in your therapist. You should have a good sense upon our initial session if your therapist is the right fit for you. We offer a complimentary 20-minute phone conversation to determine fit and answer any other questions you may have. BOOK NOW to find out if we are the right fit.
-
Your appointment is reserved just for you. If you are unable to attend your appointment, you are required to provide at least 48 hours advanced notice. A late cancellation leaves a hole in the therapist's day that could have otherwise been filled. As such, the client agrees to pay 100% of the session fee if they cancel their appointment with less than 48 hours notice. Please note, all non-emergency cancellations (e.g. general illness, weather concerns, sudden schedule change, unexpected commitment, forgetting or mistaking the ap‐ pointment time) will be charged the regular session fee. Virtual or telephone sessions will be offered when it may not be feasible to attend in-person if that was the originally scheduled appointment method. We appreciate your help in valuing your treatment, the treatment of others, and respecting your therapist's time.

As registered social workers, we are required to keep all information shared in session confidential. There are some exceptions to confidentiality which include:
Disclosure of the intent to harm yourself or someone else.
The abuse of a child under the age of 16 or abuse by a licensed professional.
If case notes are subpoenaed to Court.
If you have signed consent to release information to other care providers.

Yes, therapy is highly effective in helping individuals, couples, and families with a wide range of mental health and emotional challenges. While this is a good thing, there are important factors to consider including finding the right treatment approach that matches the concerns, fit between client and therapist, client commitment, and having patience for the process.
-
The duration of therapy can vary widely from person to person and depends on several factors, including an individual’s specific concerns, the type of therapy being used, and the level of engagement. While there’s no set timeline, most clients see me for approximately 12 sessions, with some attending a little less and some attending more. We always encourage open communication so that we can adjust our treatment plan as needed to achieve your desired outcomes.
